"Shapeland is actually Animal Kingdom" walked so "You've already listened to his music" could run
Sorry babes but as someone who lived lug around 500 cds they can die. To me lps are at least pretty and pretentious like a fine wine. Cds have no point
As someone who started listening to music on vinyl back when 8-tracks were still a thing, who saw the switch from them to cassettes and then to CDs, I can promise that recording peaked with CDs. Suddenly shuffle was a thing. they were more portable than vinyl, they didn't get chewed up just because the player got dirty, they had almost no moving parts, they were easy to rip, easy to queue up a song, and you could both carry around your media and easily loan (or resell) it - it combined the best of purely digital music with the best of cassettes, and had better quality/less recording artifacts than any previous medium.
Physical media is also the point.
The POINT is that CDs are accessible as fuck! As the above person says, they're easier and safer(for the discs) to handle and play without worrying about their condition. And even if they do get scratched, who cares? It's trivial to rip the files and burn a new one. Yourself. At home.
You can get 10 blank CDs for 10 bucks and boom you've got 10 CDs with literally whatever you want on it, including music that has never had physical editions. No, they're not fancy. That's not the fucking point. They don't have to be pretty collector's items to be valuable or practical. I can't play an LP in my goddamn car. I can't play an LP in a DVD player or video game console. I can't grab a portable record player that isn't the size of a suitcase.
And keep in mind this isn't just music! You can *yourself at home for very cheap* create physical backups of fuckin podcasts, photos, movies, video games, youtube videos. You could film your own movie on your phone and burn it to a DVD. There are free tools to do all of this, you can even make DVD menus. These are then USABLE TO NORMAL PEOPLE.

Any thoughts on AO3’s stance with AI?
dingdongyouarewrong answered:
i haven’t really looked into it outside of skimming the occasional r/hobbydrama post. i think beyond it being difficult to actually enforce any ban on “AI writing” (how on earth do you expect to determine that if it’s not disclosed?) ao3 self-selects for quality and will therefore likely just kind of self-select out of anything written by AI ever getting big on the platform. i’ve read chatGPT or even just general openAI playground’s attempts to write fic; they’re not very good!!!
It's honestly embarrassing to blame geese for being violent. What were you doing to get attacked? Maybe have some respect and keep your distance maybe and you won't get honked at?
I'm listening to like, weird noise shit rn. And I forgot that it was music and I guess was just fine with that? I guess I was like yeah, my computer sounds like this I guess? I don't know. Anyway. It started to actually have patterns and I was like oh? The weird noises from my computer are making a funky little beat? How strange, how novel.
No, it's definitely music. I am listening to music.
Guys no it was literally music. It was an album of actual music that I put on and then forgot I was listening to.
